Zhu-Bao's Book of Fire

Zhu-Bao was a Chinese sorceror who lived sometime between 300AD and 500AD. He was a master of fire magick and human emmisary of a few dark dragons. One could say that he wrote the book on fire magick, because that's what he did. For centuries, his literature has circulated amongst occult circles who have need of fire magick.

The information in the book was written upon elaborate scrolls in archaic Mandarin. Over the centuries, copies have diluted information and lost the subtleties of the language, but its basic information is largely preserved. Translations into other languages are acceptable for some of the easier spells, but most casters with a serious intention to use fire magick learn modern mandarin and ancient if they are able. Despite the fact that copies exist, all but the abridged translations into English are very rare. These translations are nicknamed 'Dummies guide to Fire'.

Basic Fire Spells

The following spells are easy to obtain if one is involved with occult circles. These spells are commonly available in English, Spanish and Russian-based languages, as well as its native Mandarin.

Flaming Spear - 2cp
You generate a spear of red flame and can use it to attack enemies in melee. It cannot be thrown, as it dissipates when it leaves your hands. It deals 6+double strength damage and is two handed.
Flaming Spear Ritual: Basic Ritual; Grants the augmentation of flaming spear. Requires an iron bar smeared in a paste made of Phosphorus III, sulphur and ground tea leaves. 6 hours casting time. During the ritual, the subject stands inside the circle holding the iron bar in a spearman-type stance. The bar heats up very slowly and eventually leaves a massive burn, which serve as the conduit for summoning the spear. These burns obliterate any occult-based conduits (ie. tattoos) on the palm side of the hand. The components are consumed in the process.

Fire Blanket - 2cp
You gain immunity to cold attacks.
Fire Blanket: Basic Ritual; Grants the augmentation of fire blanket. Requires a paste made of Phosphorus III, sulphur and ground tea leaves which are smeared all over the subject's body. 9 hours casting time. The components are consumed in the process.

One with the Flame - 2cp
You gain immunity to fire attacks.
One with the flame: Basic Ritual; Grants the augmentation of one with the flame. Requires subject to have skin rubbed in snow-pepper and then doused in cold water. 9 hours casting time. The components are consumed in the process.

Elemental Control (Fire, Minor) - 2cp
You can stem, accelerate and direct the spread of fire to a small degree. You can also summon a small campfire's worth of fire every minute, which will act like normal fire.
Elemental Control (Fire, Minor): Basic Ritual; Grants the augmentation of Elemental Control (Fire, Minor). Requires a paste made of Phosphorus III, sulphur and ground tea leaves which are smeared all over the subject's hands, front and back. 9 hours casting time. The components are consumed in the process.

Melt
Every non-magickal item within the circle begins to melt. Metals are completely melted within 30 minutes, other materials are completely melted within 60 minutes, all regardless of melting point. This means a bar of steel will melt quicker than a bar of chocolate!
Melt: Basic Ritual; Requires 10ml of mercury for every 3 1/3m in diameter of the circle. As the ritual progresses, the mercury slowly solidifies. Disturbances in the mercury (tracing patterns/glyphs, contaminating the mercury etc) can affect the effects of the spell.

Everfire
Casting Time: 1 hour
Required Components: Ebony, myrrh, oil, blood
Effect: The caster mixes the blood and oil with burning the myrh and using its smoke to trace arcane symbols in the air. He then coats the ebony in the mixture and lights it while speaking a brief incantation. If the ritual is successful, the ebony burns with everfire and will continue to burn forever, never being consumed. If deprived of oxygen, it will cease to burn, but will start burning again as soon as it is exposed to fresh oxygen.

Intermediate Fire Spells

The following spells are difficult to obtain amongst occult circles. These spells are nearly impossible, but not unheard of to obtain in the languages basic fire spells are available in, Chinese occult circles have slightly less difficulty in obtaining them.

Dragon Spit - 5cp
You can spit small balls of flame from your mouth. They deal 15 damage, and have the fire and short range properties.
Dragon Spit: Advanced Ritual; Grants the augmentation of Dragon Spit. Requires a collection of common and rare spices and a small steel ball. Cast time 3 hours. Creates a metal lozenge that must be sucked every 24 hours in order to use the augmentation. The augmentation does not go away if this condition is not met, merely unusable until the lozenge is used again. Only the creator of the lozenge may benefit from its use, but others are welcome to suck it if they want (but why would they want to?). If the lozenge is lost or destroyed, you may create a new one.

Elemental Control (Fire, Intermediate) - 5cp
You can stem, accelerate and direct the spread of fire to a medium degree. You can also summon a large bonfire's worth of fire every minute, which will act like normal fire. Gaining this magickal alteration supercedes its minor version and refunds the cp spent on it.
Elemental Control (Fire, Intermediate): Advanced Ritual; Grants the augmentation of Elemental Control (Fire, Intermediate). Requires a paste made of Phosphorus III, sulphur and ground tea leaves which are smeared all over the subject's hands, front and back and their mouth and nostrils stuffed with chips of a certain valuable chinese wood. 9 hours casting time. The components are consumed in the process.

Inner Fire - 5cp
You take on the aspects of the dancing spirits of flame. You gain +2 athletics, +1 socialise, speed 1 and jump 1.
Inner Fire: Advanced Ritual; Grants the augmentation of Inner Fire. Requires a raw 3 1/3cm cube of prime pork rump meat, marinated for 3 days in a marinade made from a collection of common and rare spices, and a couple of common magickal powders. Cast time 3 minutes. The caster must speak the incantation, swallow the cube whole, and then finish the incantation. The ritual cannot be hurried, and obviously consumed the components.

Clay Warrior
A combination spell of fire and earth. You rip earth right out of the ground below you, meld it onto your body and bake it to a magickal hardness. Great flames burn upon your pauldrons and a great flaming club or axe forms in your hands. This spell lasts until you shend the armor using the appropriate ritual. When invoking this spell, you gain soak 7, have -2 to athletics, and gain a two handed melee attack that deals 9 damage + double strength, which has the fire property. You may not weild any other armor or weapons while using this form.
Clay Warrior: Advanced Ritual; Subject takes up the armor and weapon of the Clay Warrior. Subject must be nude and covered completely in the clay earth of the Xi'an Shì region of China, or perhaps identical clay from another region. Circle must be carved in stone at least 3 1/3cm deep and the channels filled with the blood of a 'mighty warrior', which works out at about 1/3 pint of blood for a standard circle, more must be provided for larger circles. 1 1/2 hours casting time. The components are consumed in the process.

Cast off the Clay Armor
This ritual dissolves the armor and weaponry created by Clay Warrior. Requires the same circle (or a circle of the same design) as clay warrior, filled with the blood of a coward. The clay armor dissolves back into soft clay.

Dragonfire Crucible
Casting Time: 12 hours
Required Components: Everfire, crushed ruby, molten gold, rare oils, caster's blood.
Effect: In the everfire, various rare oils are burnt in the correct order and quantities while the caster speaks the correct incantations. The fire is then doused with molten gold and the crushed ruby is scattered. If the ritual has been performed correctly so far, this will result in a flash of violet light and the components will be transmuted into a smoking black rock. The caster must then add his own blood to it, directly from the vein. As he does so, the rock will burn with a blue white flame that will destroy anything it touches in the same manner as dragonfire. Once the blood ceases to flow, the rock will crack apart into white dust.

Master Fire Spells

The following spells are nearly impossible to obtain amongst occult circles. They are only available in ancient mandarin, as necessary information needed to cast the ritual is either untranslatable or otherwise loses meaning in translation and the modernisation of language.

Word of Copper - 10cp
You can spit streams of molten copper from your mouth. They deal 25 damage, and have the fire and short range properties.

Word of Fire - 10cp
You can stem, accelerate and direct the spread of fire with great competence. You can also summon a house-sized amount of fire every minute, which will act like normal fire. Gaining this magickal alteration supercedes its minor or intermediate version and refunds the cp spent on it.

Synergy Spells and Effects

The following spells are gained when two spells or an ability and a spell from the book of fire are known by the same person. They are generally taken to be logical leaps that are easily made once both spells are known due to the necessary level of magickal understanding necessary to use one or both spells.

Kiln Warrior - Requires the Inner Fire augmentation, and is activated whilst under the effects of Clay Warrior. Your body becomes a raging flame encased inside the mighty clay armor. The -2 athletics penalty for being a clay warrior is lifted.
